The STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming is intended for those looking to take up a position as a swimming teacher. Successful completion of this qualification allows learners to work with children and adults, helping them to develop their aquatic skills and basic swimming techniques.

Learners may complete this qualification for a career specifically in swimming teaching. Alternatively they may undertake this qualification to compliment another role.
The course is comprised of a mixture of theory content and practical poolside learning, enabling the learner to acquire the theoretical technical knowledge and practical hands-on experience of the swimming teacher role.
Learners will acquire the skills required to plan, deliver and evaluate a series of progressive, fun swimming lessons for groups of up to 12 participants of non-swimmer, beginner or improver ability.

On the final day, the learners will complete an external assessment which comprises of a 30-minute practical lesson to a minimum of 4 participants of either non-swimmer, beginner or improver ability.
This course does not carry an expiry date—instead learners are encouraged to keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date through completion of continuing professional development (CPD).
