STA Award in Adult and Paediatric Emergency First Aid

The STA Level 3 Award in Adult and Paediatric Emergency First Aid is a one-day course designed for those who may be required to perform emergency first aid in environments where both adults and children are present. This includes workplaces, voluntary and community settings and those wishing to gain practical life-saving skills for personal development. No previous first aid experience is required, allowing learners to start their training whenever they need to.

This qualification contains the combined content of both the STA Emergency First Aid at Work and STA Emergency Paediatric First Aid courses, covering a wide range of adult and paediatric workplace emergency first aid situations.

The Learner

The STA Level 3 Award in Adult and Paediatric Emergency First Aid course is suitable for individuals who support groups of mixed ages or work in settings where adults and children may require emergency care.

Learners who successfully complete this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to act as an allocated adult and paediatric emergency first aider within their workplace. The skills gained are transferable across a wide range of industries.

The Course

The course is comprised of a mixture of theoretical technical knowledge and practical hands-on tasks to enhance the learner experience.

The Adult and Paediatric Emergency First Aid course covers a wide range of workplace emergency first aid situations relating to both adults and children, including:

  • Managing an unresponsive casualty
  • CPR for adults, children and infants
  • Choking
  • Bleeding and wounds
  • Shock
  • Minor injuries
  • Common workplace and childcare-related incidents

Training is delivered in line with current Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines and accepted first aid practice.

Assessment

The STA Level 3 Award in Activity Emergency First Aid qualification is tutor-assessed through:

  • A multiple-choice theory assessment paper
  • Practical demonstrations

When You Get Your Qualification

  • The qualification lasts for three years
  • Your course resource manual will act as a guide throughout the duration of your qualification so it is always there to refer back to if needed
  • We recommend that you attend an annual refresher to keep your knowledge up to date

How to Take Your Qualification Further

Once you have gained your qualification, you may be appointed as a designated adult and paediatric emergency first aider for your workplace.

You may wish to develop your knowledge and skills further by completing additional STA first aid qualifications or CPDs.

Alternatively, learners may wish to complete additional STA qualifications such as manual handling, fire marshal, lifesaving, swimming teaching and pool plant to support a broader career in the leisure or education sector.
