STA Award in First Aid at Work

The STA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work qualification is a three-day course designed for those who may be required to manage and perform emergency first aid within the workplace. This is the most comprehensive of all our first aid qualifications, covering a wide range of emergency situations and giving learners the confidence and competence to act when it matters most.

The Learner

The STA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work course is ideal for individuals who have a specific responsibility at work to deliver first aid, act as an appointed first aider, or who wish to gain essential life-saving skills for voluntary, community or personal use.

No previous first aid experience is required. Learners who successfully complete this qualification will have the skills and knowledge to be an allocated first aider within their workplace, with skills that are fully transferable across a wide range of industries.

This qualification is suitable for learners who wish to support safety in the workplace or progress into first-aid-related roles, including:

STA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work: Teacher, receptionist, IT manager, teaching assistant, HR manager, spa manager, leisure duty manager, food and beverage manager, construction worker, office manager, event first aider, care worker.

It may also appeal to those looking to progress into further first aid, tutoring or leisure industry roles.

The Course

The course is delivered through a mixture of theoretical knowledge and practical, hands-on tasks to enhance the learner experience. It covers a wide range of workplace emergency first aid situations, along with the recognition and management of specific injuries and illnesses, including:

  • Basic life support
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Choking
  • Fractures
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Asthma
  • Bleeding and shock
  • And much more

Training is delivered in line with current Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines and accepted first aid practice.

Assessment

The STA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work is tutor-assessed through the completion of:

  • Completion of a multiple-choice theory assessment paper
  • Practical demonstrations.

When You Achieve Your Qualification

  • The qualification lasts for three years
  • You will receive a comprehensive course resource manual to support you throughout the qualification period
  • It is strongly recommended that learners attend an annual refresher to keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date

Renewal

To remain qualified, learners must complete a 2-day STA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work Revalidation Course before the expiry date of their certificate.

How to Take Your Qualification Further

Once qualified, learners may be appointed as a designated first aider within their workplace.

  • Junior Medic Instructor
  • STA First Aid Tutor/Assessor
